Schlock Buster

Client: Coffee Retailer

Year: 2023-2024

Project type: Brand Independence & Dedicated E-commerce Development

The Creative Vision:

Schlockbuster was a unique specialty coffee shop. Initially, their digital presence was hosted on the website of a third-party coffee shop, which limited their brand identity. My mission was to liberate Schlockbuster by giving it a dedicated, independent platform. The vision was to merge 80s & 90s video store nostalgia with a premium coffeehouse aesthetic, creating a standalone destination where the brand could finally speak in its own voice.

.

Main Contributions & Execution:

  • Web Development: I designed and launched the brand’s first independent e-commerce site. This involved migrating the brand away from a shared platform to a dedicated architecture, prioritizing their specialized coffee inventory.

  • Retro Identity: I implemented a high-contrast visual language—utilizing neon accents and VHS-inspired graphics—that defined the shop’s early identity as a community destination for cult culture and coffee.

  • Streamlined UX: I designed an experience that ensured customers could navigate the site without the clutter or confusion of a third-party host.

  • Policy Architecture & Compliance: I led the development of the brand’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy pages. Rather than using generic templates, I structured these documents to reflect the brand's specific operations—covering e-commerce liabilities, shipping policies for specialty goods, and user data protection. This ensured that the business was legally protected and that customers had a transparent, professional framework for every transaction.

The Impact:

My work provided Schlockbuster with its digital sovereignty. By moving them to their own platform, I allowed the brand to scale its unique "cult-coffee" concept without outside constraints. This project showcases my ability to lead a brand migration and build a complex, multi-category storefront from the ground up.

Project Status Note: > Since the completion of this project, the brand has undergone a total rebranding, including a change of name and a new digital direction. While the original website as I designed it is no longer live, the structural foundation and the "cult-coffee" concept I helped launch remain a part of their brand history. I have maintained archival documentation and video walkthroughs of the original UI/UX and visual identity for portfolio review.
